Wind Power in Eastern Sweden

Post by martbhell on Mon Dec 14, 2015 10:24 am

Getting over 2500 infra Eastern Sweden decided to try to invest in wind power instead of coal/nuclear power.
Has anybody else tried this out yet?
So far it's all good and the only grumpiness is heard from farmers which say it disturbs the groundhogs.

It doesn't supply enough power so the people of Finland decided against it

*enough to not use too many slots for economic/military purposes. With a large nation one has.slots to spare.

I'm fairly big, but I don't have the extra 5 slots (PER CITY) it would need.  Based on the model in the image above I could save almost $20M each year with wind.  I imagine that by the time a nation is big enough to have the number of empty slots the costs would be so prohibitive that it would be cheaper to go nuclear.

FYI, in the model the cost for the wind plant is over $30,000 because it includes a purchase of 25 aluminum at the lowest market price right now.

And your nation is not in your sig so I can't check how big your nation is :/ Smile Very Happy
OK here it is https://politicsandwar.com/city/manager/n=Adune
I must say I like the symmetry of your nation!
You're fairly big, but our nations are built quite differently (I have 7 cities more than you but almost the same level of infra per city) and I feel that in most of my cities now I when I'm going from 2500 infra to 2600 where I have a nuclear plant and a coal plant I think that I can stand buying two wind mills on the way up to 3000.
I'm not saying I want to replace the coal plants and not at all the the nuclear plant with wind mills. That's a long long way in the future if it that will ever happen.

Nova Scotia is purely powered by nuclear means. It's convenient since we have so much "uranium" deposits within the nation.

The model I follow is 1 nuke power plant and the rest are wind power

Can we get a screen shot of all your expenses? I'd like to see what that setup looks like in terms of cost.

Sigh... I guess I can, just for you. Wink

This setup works for my cities of 2600/2700 - 4 improvement slots aren't too bad (especially as I have 3-5 slots dedicated to farms in each city).

I am currently waiting for the point where it is economical to swap between nuclear/wind to pure wind, but that will be some distance in the future.

And posted, Optima. Let me know if you have any questions. It should be noted this doesn't factor in native production and the associated pollution costs - to be fair, neither did the coal analysis earlier.

In fact it did.  I sat down and did some hard numbers.  In the end, I went with the nuclear/wind option.  While it increased my power costs by 55K (5.5K per city) it also freed enough slots to put my nation into total production mode of all manufactured resources, reduced my pollution to -1 even with a uranium mine in each city, and gives me room to expand as needed much faster than with coal power. The extra resources produced also net almost an extra 1M after expenses.  I should be able to expand to another city much faster now.

The ability to have 100% of all manufacturing plants is fantastic - the only one I haven't switched on is the munitions factory.

Glad it has worked well for you! =)

Edit: I am now at 100% manufacturing capacity in all sectors. =P
